Apr 05, 2007 · Can anyone comment on the difference between the machinability of A572 versus A36. We are currently turning a part made of A36, the machine shop is finding that it is excessively gummy to the point where they have to replace inserts. A572 is similar in price and meets the yield strength criteria, but I am unsure on the machinabilty of the material. A572 Gr.65 steel - Steel GradesTool & Die Steels Inc. A572 gR.50 steel Machining Drilling, countersinking, counterboring, tapping, milling, and general machining can be done with conventional equipment and carbide tools. A572 gR.50 steel Welding A572 steel has excellent weldability and can be welded with simple procedures and A572 Steel Plate Precision Grinding, Inc.ASTM A572 Steel General Information. The ASTM A572 carbon steel specification covers the standard requirements for Grades 42, 50, 55, 60, and 65 for high-strength low-alloy columbium-vanadium structural steel shapes, plates and bars for applications in bolted, A572GR50 steel,A572GR50 steel Machinability,A572GR50 steel ASTM A572 covers structural quality, high strength, columbium-vanadium low alloy steel. ASTM A572GR50 steel Machinability Machinability of Grade 50 alloy is fair. It is basically like AISI 8615 low alloy steel. Forming This steel contains more alloying elements than plain carbon steel and thus is somewhat more difficult to form. Welding
ASTM A572. The ASTM A572 specification is the Standard Specification for High-Strength Low-Alloy Columbium-Vanadium Structural Steel for plates used in general construction and structural applications. ASTM A572 includes five grades with specified minimum yield strengths of ASTM A572 Grade 50, 55, 60, 65 Steel Plates Specification ASTM A572 Grade 50, 60 Steel Plate Sepcification ASTM A572 standard is for high strength low alloy (HSLA) structural steel plate integrated with columbium-vanadium, the specification covers 5 grades of HSLA steel profiles, plates, sheet piling, and bars. Alro SteelThe Clean-Cut/LFM 20 families of plate steel were developed for improved machining. Produced by a special calcium treatment and a controlled sulphur process, Clean-Cut steels contain sulfideinclusions which are predominately calcium modifiedto make them smaller and more uniformly distributed. The result:enhanced machinability.

The higher strength of A572 steels is attributed to small amounts of nitrogen and vanadium. The addition Metal Alloy Machinability Ratings All Metals & ForgeThe American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) determined the machinability ratings for a wide variety of materials. They determined this by running turning tests at 180 surface ft/min (sfpm). The AISI then arbitrarily assigned 160 Brinell B-1112 steel a machinability rating of 100%.

A 3/4 x 52" wide plate, for example, would have a tolerance range of .740/.780" Because of tolerances, i.e. thickness, flatness and camber, as well as the hot roll condition, ASTM A572 Grade 50 generally does not finish to specified thickness. strength but higher tensile strength than A572 due to the addition of copper and slightly higher carbon content. ASTM A572 - High-Strength Low-Alloy Structural Steel This specification covers high-strength structural quality shapes generally suitable for use in riveted, bolted, or welded construction, and for general structural purposes. Comparing Steel Plate GradesA514 T-1®:This is a heat-treated steel that offers high strength capabilities, weldability, and has few preheat requirements. Used in construction, it provides excellent durability in subzero temperatures. A572 GR 50:This steel has a 50,000 psi minimum strength level offering a
